Consumption, Distribution/Marketing, Production - Tom and Joe

Media Consumption

This refers to all the different methods and platforms that people use to interact and use media choices such as (TV, Internet, Radio, Print, Video Games etc.) for video games however this branches of into how the person interacts physically with the game in order to create emotion/movement/Emurtion.

Distribution/Marketing

Distribution is how the physical or digital version of the game/product is given to the consumer, this can either be via digital means such as downloads or streaming, or via physical means such as disks in boxes.

2 examples of which include:

Digital : Angry Birds via iPhone and Android Marketplace
Physical : Grand Theft Auto 5 via shops.

All different forms of media have there own methods of distribution and marketing, for video games this is largely via digital means as this corresponds with the product, adverts for new games are often found online on websites such as Youtube, Kotaku, Facebook and Twitter these are all large social hotspots on the web that attract a massive amount of viewers/readers. This makes spreading new products amongst large numbers of people quick and effective this is often called viral marketing.

Production

Production is the method of which the developers take to produce the particular media product, it talks about the methods of production and models, examples of these different models include, indie game developers who produce games solely or in very small groups designed for a smaller audience and larger game studios who consist of vast teams which are highly skilled and targeted to particular features of the game and bigger consumer numbers.
